What is The Maker City?
The Maker City aims to develop a shared vision for, and raise awareness of, our region’s diverse maker community and its associated micro-economies.
We promote local goods + services and connect makers with opportunities to grow. We will address government policies and regulatory issues that impact maker businesses and develop new revenue sources to support The Maker City initiatives.
By promoting local goods and services, connecting makers with opportunities, addressing government policies and regulatory issues that impact maker businesses, and developing new revenue sources to boost The Maker City initiatives, we will continue to provide fertile ground and a strong basis of support for current and future makers.
As The Maker City’s presence in the global online marketplace continues to grow, the Mayor’s Maker Council has developed a year-long series of programs, workshops and networking events designed to build an informed and collaborative City that fully embraces the maker movement. By supporting local entrepreneurs, and by welcoming new makers from all over who are intentionally choosing Knoxville as their home base, the Council looks to build on the previous years’ successes, cementing our region’s status as a maker destination — THE place for makers, right here in Tennessee.
