Mobile Commercial Kitchen Hits the Road

Chefs can create their menu at the venue with new mobile kitchen

Local caterers and chefs who want to take their show on the road have a new and convenient way to do so with the Mobile Commercial Kitchen just completed by The Chef’s Workshop in Farragut.

The mobile kitchen has everything necessary to produce food at the venue where it will be served. Dale Akins, president of The Chef’s Workshop, said it can also be rented at the site of his business, where chefs would have access to all utilities.

Akins says the mobile kitchen will allow chefs to prepare options that can’t be done in advance at a remote location, including fried foods, seafood and pancakes. Alhen Drillich, a food entrepreneur who’s worked with Akins on the project, says it can accommodate two workers, or three if one is stationary at a work station.

Akins says he spent more than $15,000 on preparing the food truck for production-type cooking. It includes a double convection oven, sandwich prep area, three-bay sink, chargrill and six-burner gas stove, full-size refrigerator and lots of workspace.

The mobile kitchen rents for $40 an hour for a minimum of four hours plus propane usage. To transport it to and from a venue is $150.

Akins will hold a launch party for the Mobile Commercial Kitchen from 4 - 7pm on Monday, November 18, at Honeybee Coffee in West Knoxville. The goal of the launch event is to bring food entrepreneurs together to collaborate with each other, and he invites taste makers to come and check it out!
