Aviary Broom Co., founded by Knoxville-based “broomsquire” Amelia Galvas, is a local artisan broom‑making studio dedicated to reviving and reinventing the traditional craft of hand-tied broomcorn brooms. Galvas apprenticed under a seasoned broom maker and now creates each broom entirely by hand—spinning and knotting the broomcorn on a spindle in an approximately 45‑minute process. Her designs blend time-honored Appalachian techniques with playful modern elements, including rainbow-dyed grasses and experimentation with palm fibers and varied ties.
Aviary’s creations have garnered attention through regular participation at Market Square Saturday markets, museum demonstrations, and workshops, and are also available via Etsy and Instagram.
