Demystifying Pinterest

In the last year Pinterest has grown to over 440 million monthly active users.  Are you one of them?

In the last Maker Meet-in of 2020 we discussed the what, the why, and the how of Pinterest with Amy Ford, Pinterest Strategist and owner of Bloom and Grow Media. She works with individual clients on their long game to maximize their digital presence and increase sales for years to come. If you are starting from scratch, your growth will be slow but will continue to trend upwards.

The first thing to note is that Pinterest is a search engine, NOT a social media platform. This is an important distinction when you create your space and begin planning a strategy.

You can get Amy’s get-started checklist here.

As you plan, remember the three pillars of Pinterest:

  1. Keywords: words and phrases used to tell Pinterest what you and your pins are about

  2. Images: make them clear, scroll stopping and click-worthy

  3. Consistency: regular and valuable content will increase your reach and engagement

But is it working? Analytics are your friend. Amy referred us all to this blog post to explain the Pinterest Dashboard and which metrics to watch. This is the link for the Google Analytics Dashboard Amy uses for her clients. (You will need to be logged into your Google Analytics Account and select a view, she uses "all website data.")

Key takeaway:

If you are being consistent in your pinning, have great images and are using keywords correctly, Pinterest will work for your business.
