I have always been drawn to the "long ago era" crafts like blacksmithing and leatherwork. I was growing my artisan blacksmithing portfolio when a shoulder injury requiring surgery and 8 months healing sidelined my aspirations. I had worked in leather off and on over the years but took it up in earnest while recovering from shoulder surgery. It can be a challenging medium, but I do love it.

Our mission is to inspire confidence in a better future for you and for our planet. One thing that makes us unique is that we love incorporating brands that are certified Benefit Corporations (B Corps). Alongside carrying many B Corp brands, we also carry many smaller brands that are sustainably made in the US, are fair trade, or are locally made right here in Knoxville. Our local artisans and makers give Minimal Optimist a downtown/ local vibe without having to travel far.
