Allison Meriwether’s paintings and drawing explore deeper self expressions of identity and focus on capturing themes in emotional experiences and story telling. Her current body of work, “Firsthand” is a group of oil paintings depicting hands accompanied by gold leafing that tell stories about our identity, our daily lives and our purpose for existing in a space.

Allison attended graduate school at New York University and Long Island University to obtain a master’s degree in fine arts. She now creates full-time in her Knoxville studio and teaches at a local high school. Her work has been shown in several galleries in New York, Boston, Texas, Florida, Oregon, Alabama, and Washington, DC. She has exhibited internationally in galleries in Seoul, Korea. original oil paintings

I've painted for over 35 years, and my favorite locations to paint en plein air are the Smoky Mountains, France, and Italy. Many of my paintings are in private collections throughout the United States and Europe, and my original oils have been exhibited in Giverny, France (home of Monet’s Gardens), Northern Italy, and Tuscany. I've had several solo art shows in Knoxville, and my limited-edition print, “Suffrage on Market Square,” is part of the Historical Exhibit of Art and Artifacts at the General Federation of Women’s Clubs History and Resource Center in Washington, DC. I'm a member of the Arts and Culture Alliance, Fountain City Art Center, American Impressionist Society, and Oil Painters of America.

Handbags and paintings

My hand-printed bags are structured layers and patterns that were created to be carried around downtown for weekend strolls, but set a distinctive statement in the office that is fresh and unique. Growing up and living in the Appalachian, Blue Ridge valley and inspired by Japanese culture, my designs are simple, fluid, and mindful.
