Summit 2020 Spotlight: Workshops

Hey! You – Maker! We see you. You have an idea, a passion, a desire to live your own life with your own parameters. And you can’t NOT make stuff.

The ability to dream up a design, craft a piece of jewelry, brew a bracing bottle of beer – these are all gifts to be celebrated, and The Maker City welcomes those who follow their own north star.

But we all know that much more goes into any creative endeavor than just creating and making. For many Makers, the nuts and bolts of driving a successful business while still keeping the muse alive can be dizzying, intimidating and – sometimes – just too much.

The Maker City Summit Workshops are here for you.

Led by local experts in their fields, both creative and practical, these sessions can educate, inspire, and energize you so that you’ll have a better understanding of how to transcend your own particular stumbling blocks – as well as a boatload of ideas you didn’t have before.

Burned out in our hustle culture? Allie Mounce and Clare Freeman of Pretty Useful Co. will help you learn how to Burn Steady. And Women in Jazz Jam Festival founder Kelle Jolly doesn’t let the demands of life dampen her creative spirit; her interactive presentation Finding Creative Inspiration will help you nurture yours.

New to digital marketing? Austin Church of Balernum has built a business on branding, design, strategy and content creation; his Digital Marketing 101 will get you out of the starting gate. And if you’re ready to take it to the next level, Digital Marketing 201, presented by Hannah Lee and Jess Vossler of 2ndMile Marketing, will present a workshop of “hard truths and best practices.”

Need great pix but can’t yet afford a pro? Shawn Poynter of Poynter Photography is on hand with Photography 101.

Lost at sea when it comes to all things business-related? A grab-bag of experts – Terence Carter of the Knoxville Urban League; Eric Amarante of the UT College of Law; and Adrienne Webster of Adrienne Webster Accounting – will get you started with Business Fundamentals 101. If you’re already fairly savvy, Business Growth Strategies 201, presented by Bob Camp of CAMPCast, LLC, will take you even further. And Catherine Porth-Cahill of Catherine Porth Consulting + Let Her Speak and Frank Ramey of the Knoxville Business Advisor will present As Shoppable As Possible 201, where you’ll learn about the small details that make your product/service irresistible in the complicated and competitive online market.

An all-access pass puts the entire Summit at your fingertips. With more content than ever before, the virtual platform allows you to hop in and out based on your needs, and even revisit the recorded workshops after the Summit ends. And the 101 and 201 tracks help you prioritize your time.

Wherever you are as a Maker, you can find what you need here with some of Knoxville finest advisors, advocates, doers, and dreamers – all of whom know without a doubt that it’s time you let go of whatever’s holding you back, and let ‘er rip.
